Theology & Education
As Episcopalians (called Anglicans in the rest of the world), we are as we pray together. Our theology is best expressed in our Common Prayer. Our members range from relatively conservative to bleeding heart liberals.
We come to our expressions of theology through Scripture, Tradition or Experience, and Reason. All three inform the others. We take The Bible seriously, not literally. As a result, we converse instead of convert. We are not afraid to discuss or question, to doubt and to seek, to hope and to open ourselves to new ideas.
Our education programs seek to engage children and adults. We hope to provoke questions, to allow people the freedom to examine and to dream. We are conversational, helping and challenging one another in our growth.
Our youngest students (ages 3 - 10 years) use “Godly Play” as their curriculum. It is a program based on the Montessori principle. The Godly Play is structured, yet open, in that a lesson is presented each Sunday and the children are invited to explore the lesson in their activities.
Our Middler Schoolers use a program called “Living the Good News.”
Our High Schoolers are involved with one another and adult advisors in a youth program called EYC.
In September the Adults started by viewing and discussing a DVD series entitled, “Uppity Women of the Bible.” To spare Randall's blushes, we abandoned the Song of Songs after one session, instead looking at the Book of Esther. We've finished reading the Book of Judith, and beginning February 27, we're looking at the book Radical Welcome, by Stephanie Spellers.
What we are after is, as said in AA, “progress not perfection.” Perfection is for God alone.
